These are films about people who fall in love with an idea—of a person, a rescue, a glamorous escape—only to watch it curdle under the weight of what's actually there: addiction, transaction, indifference, or someone else's need. Again and again the setting is seductive (Paris ateliers, carnival lots, theater troupes, gilded apartments) while the emotional core is a young or naive character discovering that intimacy comes tangled with power, compromise, and loss. The tone stays tender rather than cynical, lingering on the moment innocence recognizes it's already gone.
