Complicity Under Pressure
These films keep returning to the same uncomfortable position: a person embedded inside a system of power (state, party, police, press, empire) who has to decide how far their loyalty or silence extends before it becomes guilt. Whether it's a lawyer defending the reviled, a cop caught between the badge and the truth, or a journalist and detective picking at an official version of events, the tension comes less from external danger than from proximity to the wrongdoing itself. Truth-seeking here is never clean; it implicates the seeker, and institutions rarely reward those who push past the point where looking away would have been easier.
