This is less a genre than a chemical reaction: bodies and minds corroding under pressure, whether from occult ritual, chemical contamination, radiation, or suburban malaise. Across these films, transformation is rarely triumphant — it's grotesque, destabilizing, and often fatal, with identity, flesh, and reality itself dissolving under some external or self-inflicted toxin. Even the slasher spoofs and B-movie creature features share this undercurrent of things curdling past the point of return, played for either dread or dark laughs.
