Christmas Movies
Christmas Holiday Themes
Most of these movies run on the same fuel: a cynic, a skeptic, or someone simply worn down by life gets thawed out by the season, usually through an unlikely bond—a reporter and a small town, a screenwriter and a troubled girl, a wealthy loner and a fake family he's assembled. The magic is rarely about Santa himself so much as about connection forcing its way through someone's guardedness, which is why even the outliers here (a bleak revenge thriller, a grim outback survival story) feel like they've wandered in from the same emotional neighborhood of people stripped down and remade by circumstance. It's less a genre than a recurring shape: warmth arriving uninvited and insisting on being let in.
