Confinement and Imprisonment

This collection keeps circling back to characters who are physically or psychologically walled in—by prison cells, POW camps, isolated farmhouses, military tribunals, or their own guilt and illness—and forced to reckon with what justice, redemption, or survival actually costs. Whether it's a wrongfully convicted man, a scapegoated soldier, a trauma survivor plotting revenge, or a prisoner assessed for parole decades later, the emotional charge comes from institutions and circumstances that trap people long after the initial crime or wound, leaving them to work out guilt, agency, and moral compromise from the inside. Even the outliers—a whimsical prosthetic arm comedy, a Bond adventure, a warm refugee romance—carry some version of that same confinement, whether literal, bureaucratic, or emotional.
