Cor
Corporations And Institutions
What links these films is less a setting than a pressure point: an ordinary person pressed against a system—corporate, governmental, colonial, or bureaucratic—that claims authority over their body, labor, or fate. Some meet that pressure with defiance and organizing (We Shall Overcome, Something in the Air, Shake Hands with the Devil), others with quiet endurance or dark irony (Ikiru, Black Girl, Waiting for the Carnival), and a few weaponize satire or exposé to strip the institution's mask off entirely (Network, The Dictator, Super Size Me 2). Even the gentler romances and biopics in the mix carry the same undertow: individual longing negotiated against the weight of money, class, or power.
