Feudal Japan & Samurai

This is less a genre than a mood: Japan sitting with its own weight, whether that weight is a sword, a bomb, or a family's silence. Sword-and-honor tales like Lone Wolf and Cub, Samaritan Zatoichi, and Hana turn violence into a moral reckoning, while Tokyo Story, Godzilla Minus One, and The Battleship Island carry that same reckoning into postwar rubble and quiet living rooms. Even the lighter entries -- the comic swagger of Kill Bill, the goofy time-travel of Nobunaga Concerto -- keep circling back to duty, loss, and what it costs to survive with dignity intact.
