This is a strange grab-bag where the "irreverence" shows up less as a consistent joke-per-minute rhythm and more as a willingness to shove sincerity right up against absurdity or horror without warning — a grieving priest turns into a dinosaur, a ghost schemes murder with genuine affection intact, a mockumentary treats extinction-level questions with a smirk. Even the straighter dramas here (Apocalypse Now, Pleasure, Paradise Lost) share that same tonal whiplash, refusing to let darkness sit undisturbed by absurdity or vice versa. What links these films isn't jokes for their own sake, but a shared comfort with genre-blending instability, where campy, deadpan, or morbidly funny impulses undercut whatever mood the story was building.
