These films keep returning to the same fault line: love or loyalty tested against the walls people are born on either side of. Servants scheme against masters, working-class brothers chase wealthy sisters, peasants confront the ancien régime, and free spirits collide with the rigid proprieties of drawing rooms and courts—often ending in melancholy, tragedy, or hard-won tenderness rather than easy triumph. Even the animated wolves and mockingbirds are smuggling in the same question the documentaries ask outright: what happens to desire, dignity, and justice when the world insists on keeping people in their place.
