These films keep circling back to the same betrayal: someone close—a spouse, a lover, a handler, a colleague—turns out to be the source of danger rather than the shelter from it, and the protagonist has to keep operating inside that relationship even after the ground has shifted. Innocence gets tangled up with complicity (the framed woman, the escort, the impersonator), so the suspense comes less from external threat than from not knowing which allies are compromised. The result is a shared mood of low-grade paranoia, where every institution—marriage, government, hospital, newsroom—turns out to be another place trust quietly rotted.
